Postdoctoral Position: Vitamins & Carcinogenesis
Postdoctoral Position in Nutrition, Sustainable Diets, and Chronic Disease Prevention
Location: Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, Boston, Massachusetts
An outstanding candidate is sought to work with the Vitamins & Carcinogenesis Team and the Nutrition and Genomics Team at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) under the direction of Joel Mason, M.D. and José Ordovas, PhD. We seek a post-doctoral scholar to pursue a research program that integrates nutrition in the prevention of chronic disease and food sustainability. The successful candidate will work on NIH and ARS-funded projects to examine whether diets whose protein is sourced from a sustainable source (crickets) mitigates the risk of chronic degenerative diseases such as cancer and the metabolic syndrome compared to diets sourced from more conventional sources of protein. Research projects will be pursued in both animal models and in translational human studies.
The candidate should hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent and a research background in biochemistry, molecular biology, pathology or related fields. Prior experience with laboratory animal husbandry, and basic techniques such as PCR, western blotting, ELISA and immunohistochemistry highly desired; experience in gut microbiome a plus. Major emphasis will be placed on laboratory analyses, writing manuscripts, career development, and transition toward an independent research career. Importantly, the candidate must be diligent, detail-oriented, be able to multi-task, and possess a high level of scientific curiosity.
This position is anticipated to be for 2 years, with potential extension conditional on funding and performance. These two teams each have longstanding international reputations for excellence in pre-clinical and clinical prevention research, whose principal investigators include both an M.D. and Ph.D. This position offers a competitive salary, benefits, travel/educational opportunities, an interdisciplinary environment, and opportunity to work with other researchers at the HNRCA, Tufts University and the surrounding preeminent Boston medical sciences community. Tufts University has a very active Post-doctoral Association offering a number of resources to assist in career development.
